Hello my lovely Friends and Co-Workers

Well I’ve been here for nearly two weeks so I thought I would update you all on some of the things I have learnt so far ……

1. Sardinia has the most visually amazing water I’ve ever seen. I’ve spent most of my time here at the beach or sailing on their boat and I’ve never seen such clear water. Its breath taking.

2. There are no sharks here. At least that’s what they keep telling me. The first time the family took me out on their boat, they parked near a deserted island, in deep water and they shoved Camilla (the 6 year old child) out of the back of their boat (and when I say shoved I mean like an assisted jump).
When they questioned my horror struck face, I explained to them the concept of jaws. They laughed, I did not.

3. Everyone sleeps in until 10, lunch is at 2 or 3 and dinner at 830 or 9.

4. At any one time, I have resigned myself to be amongst the top 3 whitest persons on the beach. Italians have a permanent leather colored tan. I also am the person wearing the most clothes. This is not a good look for old Italian men.

5. Italians really do like their pasta, risotto, cheese, wine and pizza. This is brilliant for me!

6. The most dangerous thing in the water is a sea urchin. And if you step on it, you are in for a world of pain!

7. We pronounce Italian words very differently. It’s not eee it’s ehh and don’t forget to roll the r’s.

8. I get ridiculously excited when a 6 year old wants me to play barbies with her. I’m not even kidding. Coloring in is also a favorite of mine.

9. The Italians have no concept of personal space. Strangers will come and grab your arm when talking to you, and you can bet your bottom dollar that if your lying on a deserted beach and another person comes along, they will put their towel right next to yours (sometimes even over-lapping) and proceed to make a very loud phone call, while smoking a pack of cigarettes.

10. A group of three or more Italians talking together is deafening. They aren’t shouting at each other, just shouting over one another. So while it sounds dramatic and very “bold and the beautiful”, they’re really just asking each other how family members are or if they’ve seen the lasted game of thrones episode yet.

I am definatly enjoying myself here and think my year won’t be so hard. In the coming weeks I have the opportunity to spend a couple of weekends In Milan and Rome which I am Definatly excited about.

I hope everyone is keeping well and I’ll send through some photos.

Until then, Arrivederci.
